how every tip helps fund a cleaner future

We donate 20% of our platform revenue to permanent carbon removal through Stripe Climate. That's 1% of every transaction, taken entirely from our cut — not the builder's payout. Every single tip, automatically.

what is Stripe Climate?

Stripe Climate is a program that lets businesses direct a fraction of their revenue to fund permanent carbon removal. 100% of the contribution goes to carbon removal — Stripe takes no fees on Climate contributions.

Contributions fund Frontier, an advance market commitment co-founded by Stripe, Alphabet, Shopify, Meta, and McKinsey to purchase over $1B of permanent carbon removal by 2030.

how it works

01
someone tips a builder

A supporter sends tokens to a builder through their profile page. Stripe processes the payment.

02
20% of our revenue goes to carbon removal

Stripe Climate automatically sets aside 1% of the transaction (20% of our 5% platform fee) before any payouts occur.

03
funds go to Frontier

The contribution is pooled with thousands of other businesses and directed to the most promising permanent carbon removal technologies.

04
carbon is permanently removed

Frontier's team of scientists evaluates and funds projects like direct air capture, enhanced weathering, bio-oil sequestration, and ocean-based removal.

what gets funded

Frontier focuses on permanent carbon removal — technologies that store CO₂ for 1,000+ years, not short-term offsets. Projects include:

🌬️Direct air capture

Machines that pull CO₂ directly from the atmosphere and store it underground.

🪨Enhanced weathering

Spreading crusite minerals on land to accelerate natural CO₂ absorption.

🛢️Bio-oil sequestration

Converting biomass waste into bio-oil and injecting it deep underground.

🌊Ocean-based removal

Electrochemical processes that enhance the ocean's natural ability to absorb CO₂.

why permanent removal, not offsets?

Traditional carbon offsets — like paying to protect a forest — are valuable but impermanent. Forests can burn, land use can change, and the carbon returns to the atmosphere.

Permanent carbon removal physically extracts CO₂ from the air and stores it for thousands of years in geological formations. It's more expensive today, but it's the only path to actually reversing emissions — and costs come down as the technology scales.

By pooling contributions from thousands of businesses, Stripe Climate and Frontier can fund early-stage technologies that wouldn't be viable for any single company to support alone.

transparency

Every contribution is tracked through Stripe's dashboard. Frontier publishes regular updates on the projects they fund, including detailed scientific evaluations from their in-house team and 60+ external technical reviewers.
